Plunging down rock faces on your mountain bike, tearing through class 4 rapids in a canoe, flying across the ocean in a sail boat and trailblazing your way over mountains with all your gear on your back sounds really cool (AND IT IS!) But you have to start somewhere.
Base Camp is where to start! Base Camp is an introduction to trip camping that requires no previous experience or skill. Before arriving you choose one of four skills you would like to learn:
- Mountain Biking,
- White-Water Canoeing,
- Sailing, or
- Backpacking
The first part of the week you learn the basics of your chosen skill under the instruction and supervision of experts. After the basics are learned each module leaves for a trip during which you are able to put your new skills into practice. By the end of the week you will feel prepared to handle yourself in the outdoors, and you will be ready to tackle another of our one of a kind adventure trip camping challenges. Most gear is provided with some exceptions.
Base Camp is again held in beautiful Pinecrest, California. Pinecrest Lake is within walking distance of the camp, which is located at over 5000 feet in elevation in the Sierra Mountains of Northern California.
Modules will eat and sleep as a unit both in camp, and while out on their module trip.
Camp-wide games and fun campfire programs each evening are just a few of the highlights of this great summer camp. Base camp offers the small trip feel with the big camp fun! This is a great chance to bring a friend so you can learn your chosen skill together!
